This page explains what information Downey Spotlight collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Downey Spotlight is a local business directory for Downey, published by Downey Spotlight Media. When we say “we” or “us,” we mean Downey Spotlight Media.

The short version: we only collect what we need to run the directory, we don’t sell your personal information, and you can ask us to update or delete your information at any time.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details — your name, username, email address and password when you create an account to add or claim a business.
• Business listing details — the business name, address, phone, website, hours, photos, services and other details you submit. Most of this is meant to be shown publicly on your listing.
• Messages — what you send us through our contact form or by email, including your name and email address.
• Reviews — if you leave a review, your name and the review are shown publicly on that listing.

Information collected automatically

• Basic usage information — like the pages you visit, your browser type and general location (city level), which helps us understand how the site is used and keep it working.
• Cookies and similar tools — small files that keep you signed in, remember simple choices (like whether you hid the map), and help us measure traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser, but some features, like signing in, may not work without them.

Public business information

Some listings are created from publicly available information, such as a business’s name, address, phone number, hours and public ratings. Business owners can claim their listing to update it, or contact us to have it corrected or removed.

How we use information

• To run the directory and show business listings to visitors.
• To create and manage accounts, and to confirm that a person claiming a listing is connected to that business.
• To answer your questions and messages.
• To send emails about your account or listing (for example, when it’s approved). We won’t add you to a marketing list without your permission.
• To keep the site safe, prevent spam and fix problems.
• To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

How information is shared

We don’t sell your personal information. We only share it:

• Publicly, when that’s the point — listing details and reviews are shown on the site.
• With service providers that help us run the site, such as web hosting, email delivery, maps and spam protection. They can only use the information to provide their service to us.
• When required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or Downey Spotlight Media.
• If our business changes hands, information may transfer to the new owner, who would need to follow this policy.

Links and maps from other sites

Listings link to business websites, social media and map services. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we’re not responsible for how they handle your information.

How long we keep information

We keep account and listing information for as long as your account or listing is active, and messages for as long as we need them to help you. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see below). We may keep some records when we need to for legal or security reasons.

Your choices and rights

• Update your information — sign in to your dashboard to edit your profile or listing.
• Ask for a copy, a correction or deletion — email us at support@mail.downeyspotlight.com and we’ll respond within 45 days.
• Unsubscribe — every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link.

If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it’s used, to ask us to delete it, to correct it, and to not be treated differently for using these rights. Security

We use reasonable steps to protect your information, like secure connections (HTTPS) and limited access. No website can be 100% secure, so please use a strong password and keep it private.

Children

Downey Spotlight is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we’ll let account holders know by email.
