About the directory

Downey Spotlight helps people find local businesses in Downey. Listing information comes from business owners, our own research and publicly available sources. We work to keep it accurate, but hours, prices, services and other details can change. Please check directly with a business before you rely on its information.

A business being listed, featured or advertised on Downey Spotlight does not mean we endorse it or guarantee its work. Your dealings with any business are between you and that business.

Accounts

• You need to be at least 18 to create an account.
• Give us accurate information and keep your password private. You’re responsible for activity on your account.
• We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or misuse the site.

Adding and claiming a business

• Only add or claim a business you own or are authorized to manage. We may ask for proof before approving a claim.
• New listings are reviewed before they go live. We may edit, decline or remove any listing, for example if it’s inaccurate, duplicate, misleading or not a real local business.
• Basic listings are free. Paid options, such as advertising in the community postcard, are separate and have their own terms.

Content you submit

When you submit content, such as listing details, photos, services or reviews, you confirm that it’s accurate and that you have the right to share it. You keep ownership of your content, and you give Downey Spotlight Media permission to display, edit for length or format, and promote it on Downey Spotlight and related Downey Spotlight Media publications.

Please don’t submit content that:

• is false, misleading or impersonates someone else;
• you don’t have the rights to, such as photos taken from someone else’s website;
• is hateful, harassing, obscene or illegal;
• is spam, or mostly advertising for a different business.

Reviews

Reviews should reflect a real experience with the business. Business owners may not review their own business or offer rewards for reviews. We may remove reviews that break these rules. Some listings also show ratings from outside sources, such as Google; those belong to their sources.

Using the site

Please don’t copy or scrape the directory in bulk, try to break or overload the site, or use it to send spam. Our design, logo and the directory as a whole belong to Downey Spotlight Media.

Links to other sites

Listings link to business websites and other sites we don’t control. We’re not responsible for their content or how they handle your information.

Disclaimer

The site is provided “as is.” We don’t promise that it will always be available, error-free or that listing information is complete or current.

Limitation of liability

To the extent allowed by law, Downey Spotlight Media is not liable for any indirect or incidental damages, or for any loss that comes from your use of the site or your dealings with businesses listed on it.

If there’s a claim

You agree to cover Downey Spotlight Media’s reasonable costs if a claim is made against us because of content you submitted or your misuse of the site.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Los Angeles County, California.
